Overall, you are rewarded with one GCSE for maths.
How many math papers do I sit?
For each exam board e.g. AQA, OCR or Edexcel, whether Foundation tier or Higher tier, you will have to sit three papers. Two will be calculator exams, and one will be non-calculator. Each paper will assess you on different parts of the specification.
Don’t be confused with the Welsh!
Students in Wales would get two GCSE’s for maths. One for GCSE Maths and the other for GCSE Maths Numeracy. But for students not studying in Wales, you only get one.
Which subjects have more than one GCSE?
The main encounter with having more than one GCSE is usually in science, where you can get either Double Award or Triple Award. English is also split into two GCSE’s; one for Language and one for Literature. The rest you are rewarded with one full GCSE at the end of the course.
If you wish to study further
Some schools offer additional options for students to partake in extra maths GCSE’s with regard to the student’s ability and effort to able to do so. These options are Statistics and Further maths, both worth one GCSE each. It is completely optional to take these unless it has been discussed with you by a teacher or the school. Only then do you get two GCSE’s – one for Maths and one for the additional option you choose e.g. Statistics or Further maths.
